Prescription Fraud Detection & Telemedicine Validation Flow
Led the design of Tata 1MG's prescription validation architecture — covering the full lifecycle from image upload to pharmacist approval and order release.
The system operated across three layers: image quality checks, CDSCO compliance checks, and telemedicine-sourced prescription validation.
Collaborated with the compliance, operations, pharmacy, and tech teams.

The Challenge
- Prescription fraud patterns were diverse: recycled prescriptions, digitally altered documents, prescriptions for Schedule H/H1 drugs obtained without valid consultation, and telemedicine prescriptions from unregistered practitioners.
- The validation system needed to be robust enough to catch fraud while avoiding false positives.
- Scale: thousands of prescription orders processed daily.
The Approach & Solution
- Designed a tiered validation flow: automated image quality scoring to CDSCO schedule matching to telemedicine source verification to pharmacist final review.
- Mapped every drug SKU on the platform to its CDSCO schedule category.
- Defined the criteria for telemedicine prescription validity.
- Built the fraud detection dashboard to surface patterns.
- Coordinated with the operations and pharmacist teams to define escalation protocols.
